With more than two thousand manuscripts and scores, the Mariana Music Museum is one of the most important in Latin America for presenting a detailed panorama of the Brazilian music from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The museum collection, which dates back to the Captaincy of Minas Gerais, was organized and restructured through an initiative conceived, coordinated and managed by SANTA ROSA BUREAU CULTURAL in partnership with FUNDARq.
Besides being recovered and organized for the Museum’s exhibition, the most important documents were identified, restored and gathered in one collection composed of nine new CDs, with 51 rare works edited and recorded, and nine books presenting their scores and comments from specialists.
A series of nine concerts in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo complemented the initiative that, in 2002, won the Rodrigo Mello Franco de Andrade Award, granted by the Ministry of Culture, in the category of “preservation of collections, inventories and research”. Given its methodological innovations, the work was internationally praised as one of the most significant and exemplary in its field.
